Only one British opera company is mounting a stage production of the Ring in the bicentenary year, and it’s not the Royal Opera, ENO or any of the major regional companies. It’s plucky little Longborough Festival Opera, which for some years now has steadily been building up a cycle under Anthony Negus; this summer it reached Götterdämmerung, of which it gave four performances, and it’s now poised for three complete cycles next summer, assuming financial targets are met.
