Melbourne Opera’s presentation of the tetralogy was only the fifth production seen in Australia, the third fully Australian staging and the first in a regional city. It was given over three cycles in the 800-seat Ulumburra Theatre in the goldfields town of Bendigo, two hours’ drive from Melbourne, because a glut of musicals made it impossible to find a suitable Melbourne venue this year, or next.
