The Deutsche Oper’s new staging of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, by the production team of Jossi Wieler, Anna Viebrock and Sergio Morabito, is set against the backdrop of the musical and sexual revolutions of the late 20th century. The set for Act I locates us in Dr Pogner’s conservatoire. Magdalena is a Dozent (lecturer) within this institution, with the Masters making up its faculty and the apprentices its students.
