Barry Millington, Under the Covers: A Report on the Reopened Wahnfried and New Archives in Bayreuth

Visitors to Haus Wahnfried in 2013, the bicentenary year, were confronted by a building site and a promise that in due course a €20M state-of-the-art complex would be opening devoted to the life, work and legacy of Richard Wagner. Two years on, following a protracted, positively operatic feud involving a cast of family members, the director of the Richard Wagner Museum (Dr Sven Friedrich), the mayor of Bayreuth and assorted extras, the doors have finally opened.
