Deborah Calland and Barry Millington, ‘Lonely Walk’: an Unpublished Song by Alma Schindler-Mahler

Contrary to the superannuated, stereotypical view of her as a fin-de-siècle femme fatale of limited creative abilities, Alma Mahler-Werfel (née Schindler) was in fact one of the most highly talented women of her generation. Questionable as this claim may seem, we believe it can be substantiated by a more informed appreciation of her accomplishments, including the song ‘Einsamer Gang’, written when she was barely out of her teens, recently rediscovered and published here for the first time.
