Fairytale Ending: Michael Fuller witnesses the conclusion of the new ‘Ring’ in Basel

Benedikt von Peter’s staging of Der Ring des Nibelungen in Basel began last year with Das Rheingold and Die Walküre (reviewed in TWJ, xviii/1), and has now been completed; full cycles will be performed in 2025. Continuity was assured as the curtain rose on the set familiar from last year’s performances – the framework of a house and leafless, lopped trees to the rear of the stage, with a campfire and a long dining table to the front.
