When a Hindoo would secure eternal bliss, he bathes in the Holy River.
When an Arab would save his soul alive, he makes a pilgrimage to Mecca.
When a Musical Amateur would retain his prestige, he goes to Bayreuth.
His road thither is arduous and beset with the bristling difficulties of the earnest pilgrim. 

I think the Bavarian railways are a perfect type of the highest Art – Art for Art’s sake! These exist purely because it is good to be alive; they have no mere utilitarian regard of passengers, or luggage, or time.
