Siegfried’s Isar Journey: Dexter Drown admires much – but not all – of Simon Rattle’s new recording of the third ‘Ring’ opera

The Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and Simon Rattle continue their Ring cycle with a compelling rendition of Siegfried which showcases the best of their artistic partnership. This instalment was recorded live at the Isarphilharmonie in Munich, and is presented on three CDs, one per act. The attractive set of liner notes in German and English includes an interview with Simon Rattle by Bernhard Neuhoff, a short act-by-act synopsis and some characterful sketches by harpist Magdalena Hoffmann.
