The London Philharmonic Orchestra dedicated the conclusion of its semi-staged Ring cycle, begun in 2018, to the memory of Andrew Davis, who frequently conducted the orchestra, most notably during his tenure as music director of Glyndebourne from 1989 to 2000, and who died a week before this performance. One wonders what the famously warm-hearted Sir Andrew would have made of the concert – responding with generous compliments, perhaps, and glossing over inadequacies with a gentle joke.
